I haven’t written in a long time. A very long time. It has been a long season of eagle eye focus on whatever the main thing was, while the periphery remained blurry and therefore not worthy of attention. It has been a long season of hard decisions and change. It has been a long season of challenge. Regardless of what those words mean to me in my own day-to-day, I think most of us can apply them with truth to ourselves over this global era of unknowns.
I like writing. I like to see the words appear under my pen when I journal; the ink filling up the white page which until that moment had contained nothing but promise and possibility. I like to see the letters push the cursor ever farther to the right when I type. I like stringing words together into phrases and sentences and ideas. So I intend to do it some more.
The last few years have given us all things to ponder. And one way to process those things is by writing. Of course I’m going to tell you that your song is there to be shared. That your words and story are deserving of being heard. But just because I think you could write your song doesn’t mean you will or that there is any obligation to please me. Just know that if you do, I am here, and I would be honoured to hear it.
But getting thoughts from brain to paper or pixel is a cathartic process, and I encourage you to take a few minutes from your day to do it. Sometimes getting started is the hardest part – of anything. Working out, playing music, socializing, painting a room, clearing the snow…. so if there is something you are trying to get started on, let me know how I can support you in that. Except maybe the snow shoveling.
Stay warm, friends, and shine on.
